These take place from Easter until the end of October, every Tuesday to Saturday.

Additional peak season walks also take place on Mondays during June to 29th September starting at 2 pm and on Sundays starting at 11 am.

  • This tour, from the Saturday Market Place to the Tuesday Market Place, takes in 1,000 years of history. Historic buildings, hidden courtyards and the river all reveal King’s Lynn’s story from small settlement to successful port and elegant town – along with the stories of the people who left their mark here.

    King’s Lynn was one of England’s foremost ports from medieval times and evidence of this rich maritime heritage is to be found all along the waterfront streets – fine houses, warehouses and, of course, the Custom House. Wealthy merchants, naval heroes, brave sailors and bold smugglers have all left their stories waiting to be heard.

    Explore the Bishop of Norwich’s ‘new town’, the second medieval town, started in 1150. Discover its roots and the changes seen over the years as you take what John Betjeman described as ‘one of the finest Georgian walks in England’ to reveal its medieval origins.

    Enjoy a walk in our delightful and historic urban park in the heart of King’s Lynn. The Walks is the only surviving 18th century town walk in Norfolk.

    Gaywood’s history is older than that of King’s Lynn. Explore the development of Gaywood from Bishop’s residence, to rural village and Bagge family estate, to the busy suburb of King’s Lynn that we know today.

    Described in the 17th century as the most fortified town in the East, follow the historic town wall defences, while learning of the part they played during the siege of King’s Lynn during the English Civil War.

    Please note:

    This walk takes about two and a half hours, including some footpaths over rough ground. Walking shoes or trainers are therefore recommended, along with suitable clothing in case of rain. Unfortunately, this walk is not suitable for wheelchair users.

    Discover an area that has known both great poverty and great wealth, and the people who lived there. Our tour takes us to the Fisher Fleet and the Docks, then to Loke Road, before returning to the old North End.

    Explore King’s Lynn’s long and illustrious maritime tradition, hear about the old and the new Hanseatic League and discover historic buildings, one of which is the only surviving Hanseatic warehouse in England.

    This tour includes an anchorite’s cell, a unique Victorian park and its Grade 1 listed pilgrim chapel and a monastery garden with the Leaning Tower of Lynn. Learn how Edward VII helped provide a place of worship for the King of Spain.

    Explore both sides of the River Great Ouse, the artery that allowed Lynn to become such a rich and powerful town. Discover Harding’s Pits, one of England’s largest doorstep greens and the source of the clay for the bricks that built much of 19th Century Lynn.

    We cross the river at the South Lynn ‘free’ bridge and can then experience the fine perspective of the town’s quayside from the west, before taking the ferry back across the river to end the walk at King Street.

    This walk takes up to 3 hours, including along rough ground on the riverbank and includes a ferry crossing. Walking shoes or trainers are recommended, along with suitable clothing in case of rain. Unfortunately, this event is not suitable for wheelchair users.

    Whilst Lynn’s young men were fighting during the Great War of 1914-1918, those left at home found themselves facing new challenges, including enemy zeppelin attacks. This walk explores how the people of Lynn were affected by the war - and how they celebrated the return of peace.
