King’s Lynn From The West

The River Great Ouse

A historic waterfront scene during sunset with a church tower reflecting on the calm river, old brick buildings, lamp posts, and a stone walkway.

Custom House and Outer Purfleet

Trace the course of the River Great Ouse as it passes through King’s Lynn, the pulsing artery that powered the town’s rise to extraordinary wealth and influence. As we follow its banks, we uncover Harding’s Pits—one of England’s largest doorstep greens, where the very clay that built 19th century Lynn was carved from the earth.

Our path leads us across the South Lynn “free” bridge, where the river opens up to reveal a striking, cinematic sweep of the town’s historic quayside. From this vantage point, Lynn’s past feels almost within reach—its warehouses, merchants’ houses, and waterfront skyline unfolding like a scene from another age. See the  landscape from the West looking East across the river to the town that once fed its unstoppable growth

Then comes our return: a ferry ride that carries us back across the water, the town rising before us as it has for centuries, guiding us toward our final steps on King Street. A journey through history—by land, by river, and into the heart of Lynn’s dramatic story.
